Gloveboxes and containments

James Fisher Technologies (JFT) has a reputation for designing and supplying containments for the safe handling and manipulation of radioactive materials in development, production and decommissioning applications.

With broad understanding of designing for applied operations, we can deliver the answer to your radioactive material processing challenges. Containments can be planned for all classifications of contamination controlled areas and are decontaminable and wipe-down in accordance with NF standards.

JFT has practice designing nuclear ventilation systems for the supply and extraction of air from facilities and containments. Containments can be designed to include stand-alone ventilation system, or to be interfaced with a new or existing building ventilation system. High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration units can be fitted with safe change filter boxes to minimize the spread of contamination when filters are changed.

Gloveboxes are a convenient and consistent method of containing radioactive material. They can be designed to enclose equipment and JFT has the know-how to provide process equipment and powder handling systems such as hoppers, crushers, blenders, grinders and pelleting equipment. For intricate operations, suites of gloveboxes with ports and connecting tunnels to pass material between work areas can be delivered. Double-door transfer ports can be offered for bringing material into the glovebox complex without compromising the containment. For the export of material, bagging and double-bagging ports for the safe removal of items and drum-out facilities can be provided.

During decommissioning, cutting operations can mobilise contamination and particulates. JFT has wide-ranging knowledge in designing ventilated size-reduction booths to minimize the impact on decommissioning workers.

Past projects include JFT delivering a glove box to Rocky Flats. JFT also has experience of designing sealed containers and boxes to IAEA transport standards.
